Zhongli feels a wave of relief rush over him to see him sleeping. He approaches the bed now coming to sit right at the edge of it and bring a hand to gently settle into Childe's hair affectionately. Without much thought, Zhongli will them lean down to press his forehead against Childe's temple, whispering a quiet apology.
He knows this is bad, to be trying to continue separating himself and his affections for this assassin from his mafia head presence. It had been a simple curiosity at first but now things are getting complicated far too quickly. The problem is that he does not believe Childe will believe him if he attempts to explain they are the same person. He's going to have to figure it out himself... and Zhongli can only hope it doesn't devastate the other. He's less worried about Childe feeling betrayed over everything, and far more concerned this attachment he has to "Zhongli" will hurt him when he realizes he has to kill that very person to fulfill his mission. Not that Zhongli has any doubt that Childe will ultimately do it, he simply hopes it won't be a painful internal conflict that he's going to carry with himself after the deed is done.
... Hmph. There he goes again, worrying about this person's wellbeing when they have barely known one another and being well aware he's only here to kill the Mafia head. This affection he offers, too, is more likely than not a means to an end (even if that explains very little as to why he was willing to back down against Rex Lapis is he could have Zhongli. Again, what does that even mean?)
What is he going to do? He's never felt such an affection for anyone so quickly. It's clearly dangerous.
Zhongli closes his eyes and lingers a moment longer before finally pulling back and going to stand up from the bed. ]
